Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK ) is an English-language journal published by the Japanese Society of Pharmacokinetics (JSSX), and publishes highly original articles on basic and applied research on pharmacokinetics, metabolism, transporters, DDS, clinical pharmacology, analysis, gene expression, and pharmacogenetics of biological foreign substances including drugs. The journal publishes highly original articles on basic and applied research on foreign substances, including pharmaceuticals. The journal has been published since the establishment of the Japanese Society of Pharmacokinetics in 1985, and was originally published as Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) in 2002. DMPK was re-launched as Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) in 2002 with the goal of becoming an English-language journal with a high impact on the global market. DMPK has adopted the following five submission formats: Regular Articles, Notes, Short Communications, SNP Communications, and Reviews.
DMPK is characterized firstly by the publication of highly novel articles on the pharmacokinetics of foreign substances, including pharmaceuticals, and the factors that significantly affect their pharmacokinetics, such as metabolic enzymes and transporters, from both basic and applied research perspectives. Second, SNP Communications is a unique journal that actively publishes research results on drug discovery related to pharmacokinetics. Third, SNP Communications is a unique journal in that it provides a forum for the publication of new SNP information on genes encoding enzymes and transporters related to pharmacokinetics and biological factors related to their regulation, as well as their functional analysis. The journal has been attracting a great deal of attention from overseas as well.
In August 2003, the journal began to be published electronically on J-Stage (about 10,000 accesses and 4,000 downloads per month), and in November 2004, abstracts were added to PubMed. In 2005, we submitted an Impact Factor application to ISI, and in April 2006, we introduced ScholarOne’s electronic submission and peer review system. In January 2015, DMPK moved to Elsevier’s online journal, and in January 2016, it became a fully electronic journal (members of the Japanese Society for Pharmacokinetics can view the journal for free).
Since 2008, DMPK has been publishing a special issue (Theme Issues) every year, which provides an in-depth understanding of the contents of the issue at a time by publishing a collection of submitted papers dealing with research themes that are the focus of attention at that time.
